A swim teacher has shared the terrifying reason why you should never put your kids in a blue bathing suit – warning how the seemingly-innocent color choice could actually leave your children in serious danger.
Nikki Scarnati, a certified Infant Swimming Resource instructor and mother-of-two from Spring Hill, Florida, recently went viral on TikTok after she issued a stark warning to other parents regarding their children’s swimming apparel.
The self-proclaimed ‘water safety advocate’ explained that youngsters should never go in the water while donning a blue outfit, since it might make it hard for an adult to spot them if they start drowning.

She then turned the camera to show her two-year-old daughter swimming in a blue one-piece – revealing just how hard it was to spot the toddler because her swimsuit matched the water around her.
‘This is why you do no put your children in blue bathing suits,’ she began in her TikTok video, which got more than 6.2 million views
‘Look how difficult it is to see her under the water. And this is in calm water, this is not with a whole bunch of other kids playing and splashing around and having fun,’ Nikki continued.
‘Even look in the sunlight, look how difficult it is to see her with that bathing suit on. It’s the same color as the environment, so do not buy blue bathing suits guys.’
In the caption, she encouraged parents to buy their kids ‘bright’ bathing suits to be safe.
Many moms and dads took to the comment section to praise Nikki for her advice, with one person admitting, ‘That’s crazy, I would have never even thought about it.’

‘As a lifeguard, it definitely helps having them in bright colors. Especially if the pool is busy. Prevent the risk,’ someone else encouraged.
While chatting with Insider recently, Nikki explained that she saw the blue swimsuit that her daughter wore in the video on sale and decided it was a perfect opportunity to teach the internet a lesson.
She knew she would drive the point home by showing just how hard it was to spot her daughter while she was wearing in the blue swimsuit.
‘Sometimes seeing is believing,’ she explained.

According to the CDC, drowning is the leading cause of death in kids, and there are roughly 4,000 fatal unintentional drownings in the United States annually.
In another video, Nikki discussed the danger of leaving toys or floats in the pool after you’re done swimming.
‘It’s going to make the pool more enticing,’ she warned. ‘At the end of the day, a pool is always going to be interesting to a child. They want to go near it, they want to check it out, and they want to see what’s going on with it.
‘If you have things in the pool, that makes it even more interesting, and you’re increasing the likelihood that they’re gonna fall in during a non-swim time.
‘When you’re not swimming, you want to make sure you pull everything out.’
She added that if someone were to ‘fall in,’ it was ‘more difficult to spot them’ if you had ‘things on the surface.’
