James Corden reveals how he turned to Adele for help amid the backlash in LA over his ‘rude behaviour’ in the final Carpool Karaoke, which airs on Thursday.
The host of the Late Late Show, 44, who earns $36million per year, is returning home to the UK to be closer to his family members – but opened up about the mistakes he has made while in the States.
Corden famously landed himself in hot water after he was lambasted online by the owner of NYC restaurant Balthazar, Keith McNally, for being the ‘most abusive customer’ ever over an omelette he had ordered for his wife, Julia.
And a TV director has criticised Corden as the ‘most difficult and obnoxious presenter’ he has ever worked with, claiming the English comic berated and cursed at staff working on a popular British game show.
But James showed his softer side when he reveals he turned to Adele, 34, when he struggled to deal with the fall-out of his behaviour which he has apologised for.

Adele has revealed she once had a six hour conversation with her close friend James Corden after he broke down over ‘work’ and ‘the internet’.
The teary-eyed singer, 34, hinted the talk show host, 44, wasn’t happy with his life in America during the last ever Carpool Karaoke, admitting it made her feel ‘unsafe’.
During the final segment of the iconic format, James explained: ‘It was work stuff, and the Internet, and all those things.’
Adele then responded: ‘It got me thinking, I felt so unsafe, with you feeling unsafe, because you’ve always been like [the adult] you have, since I was like 21.’
‘And then I went to the studio a couple of weeks later, and I wrote this and I sang it into my phone and I sent it to you and I do remember you saying, “That’s exactly how I was feeling.'”
James interjected, saying: ‘It was everything that I was feeling that day. I was floored by how you’d managed to take everything that I was feeling myself, and… life, and just put it in a verse.
‘It is the greatest privilege that from a conversation so honest between two friends that you created such a thing, it blows my mind.’
In October, James was hit by controversy when he was banned from Manhattan eatery Balthazar by owner Keith McNally, who branded James his ‘most abusive customer ever’ for allegedly berating his staff.
Taking to Instagram to announce the ban, Keith – one of the most famous restaurateurs in all of New York – accused the comic of engaging in rude and childish behavior on two separate occasions.
On the first, James reportedly claimed a hair had been found in his food – and demanded free drinks to make up for it, according to McNally.

The second involved his wife, Julia, and an egg-yolk omelette she ordered. Keith claimed she received a plate with egg white on it, angering James.
The final straw came shortly thereafter when another omelette was sent out with a side of home fries instead of salad, sending the star into a full-blown rage.
James later apologized for his behavior and Keith lifted his ban.
Elsewhere in the Carpool Karaoke chat, Adele revealed for the first time that a verse in her song I Drink Wine was inspired by James, when he later turned to the singer for advice as he was having his own tough time in life.
‘[The verse] was inspired by a conversation that you and I had, and it was the 4th of January, 2020 or something, and we’d been on vacation together with the kids…’ Adele began.
Adele, who finalized her divorce with Simon in March 2021, two years after announcing their split – revealed that she went on a family vacation with James, his wife Julia Carey, their three children, and her son Angelo, 10.
‘And we were on our way home and my mood had changed and it was like the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable, for just being an adult, whereas the year before that I left Simon, you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo,’ she said breaking down in tears.
‘You used to do it with humour as well, you used to be like, “good luck with that one!” with any sort of thing that I was pursuing, and you were always so, you were like an adult with me, you and Julia would always give me this advice.’
Some of the lyrics they sang along to included the lines: ‘How come we’ve both become a version of a person we don’t even like?
‘We’re in love with the world, but the world just wants to bring us down, by putting ideas in our heads, that corrupt our hearts somehow.’

Holding back tears, James called it a ‘privilege’ that Adele had managed to capture how he was feeling and put it into one of her songs.
James has apologised a few times for his behaviour.
In November, James said sorry to fellow comedian Ricky Gervais after ‘inadvertently’ using his 2018 stand-up joke on his Late Late Show.
Ricky, 61, tweeted a clip from the TV host’s show on Halloween night in which Corden repeated the joke from his Netflix stand-up gig Ricky Gervais: Humanity.
Corden wrote on Twitter: ‘Inadvertently told a brilliant Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him.
‘It’s brilliant, because it’s a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all Ricky’s excellent specials on Netflix.’
Ricky then shared a clip of Corden repeating the joke, saying: ‘The bit about the town square advert for guitar lessons is brilliant.’
But the comedian later said he deleted the tweet because he ‘felt sorry for’ James.
Telling the joke, James said on the show: ‘If someone puts up a poster in a town square that says ‘guitar lessons available’, like you don’t get people in the town going, ‘I don’t want to play guitar! I want to play the piano you piece of s**t!’
‘Well that sign wasn’t for you. It was for somebody else! You don’t have to get mad about all of it.’
But James’ joke was a copy – practically word for word – of Ricky’s 2018 joke.
Ricky said in his comedy sketch: ‘They choose to read my tweet, and then take that personally.
‘That’s like going into a town square, seeing a big notice board and there’s a notice – guitar lessons – and you go, ‘But I don’t want f***ing guitar lessons’.’
He added: ‘Fine, it’s not for you then, just walk away. Don’t worry about it!’
Ricky noticed how James’ sketch was copied from his own 2018 and tweeted about it.
When a fan asked the British comedian whether Corden had asked permission to use the joke, he said: ‘No. I reckon one of the writers ‘came up with it’ for him. I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand up routine word for word like that.’
The Late Late Show later deleted the video of James making the joke from their Twitter page.
However, the segment was kicked off in a much lighter tone, when the Someone Like You singer played a prank on James by turning up at his home in LA.
Sneaking into his bedroom, Adele gave James a rude awakening with crash cymbals as she told that she would be driving him into work.
As they began their journey to CBS studios, James was seen in the passenger seat for a change as the two pals got ready to sing together.
However, things get off to a shaky start as the Tottenham-born megastar told James she is ‘s****ting herself being behind the wheel, adding: ‘I’m actually not a brilliant driver.’
After launching into a rendition of her hit Rolling in the Deep, Adele has James in hysterics as she starts asking him questions about Carpool Karaoke saying: ‘There’s been some bloody brilliant ones, and some s*** ones too.’
Talking about it being his very last carpool, James admitted that he was ‘excited’ and ‘scared’ with Adele agreeing: ‘Yeah I bet.’
‘I don’t know – it’s been a crazy eight years, in one sense it feels like it’s gone like that (clicks fingers) and in another I feel like I don’t remember what life was like before being here,’ a teary-eyed James said.
‘More than anything I will miss going into work with my friends everyday. I’m really going to miss LA,, I love it here, it’s been a brilliant adventure. But I’m just so certain that it’s time for us as a family, with people getting older and with people that we miss, that it’s time to go home.’
Adele then revealed how James leaving is personally affecting her. ‘I’ve never lived in LA without you guys so I’m like a bit nervous about it.
The pair also reveal a story about how James had tried to set up an elaborate prank to fool Adele into thinking that a wild bear was on the loose in Beverly Hills.
But things got off to a rocky start when Adele arrived early and her assistant spotted that there were secret cameras in the room.
Despite going to great lengths to pull it off – including getting Gayle King to record a spoof news report on the bear – James cut it short when he could see Adele was getting uncomfortable.
Later, James addressed Adele’s ‘EGO’ status now that she has won an Emmy, Grammy and an Oscar – and would just need a Tony Award to earn the prestigious ‘EGOT’ status.
‘I really don’t think that is ever going to happen,’ Adele laughed.

However, that doesn’t stop Adele from singing along to Barbra Streisand’s Don’t Rain On My Parade from the musical Funny Girl.
After yet another emotional sing-song to Adele’s Hometown Glory, the pair start to tear up again as Adele tells him: ‘You’re one of my best friends in the whole world.’
Wiping away her tears Adele added: ‘I’m just not ready to come back [to the UK] yet. Otherwise I would come back with you.’
