The heckler, wearing a yellow vest grumbles 'Mary and got close to the Crown Princess before security intervened

Princess Mary’s official visit to Australia has been rocked by a security scare on day one after she was confronted by a man in a helmet wearing a Go Pro camera.

The heckler, wearing a yellow vest was overhead saying ‘ I got close to the Crown Princess’ before a security guard intervened.

Dramatic photographs show the man dressed in a high-vis vest was just one metre from the princess’s bike before security stepped in.

The Danish Royal, who famously met Crown Prince Frederik at Sydney bar The Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympic Games, is back in Australia for her first official visit in more than a decade.

Security quickly stopped the man

The bike ride was her first official engagement on Friday morning after flying into Sydney on Thursday night.

Princess Mary will lead a Danish delegation for discussions about Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

Despite the close encounter with the man, witnesses say Princess Mary remained calm and ignored her approach.

Before the security scare, the 51-year-old looked poised and calm in Hyde Park despite being surrounded by eager onlookers.

Before putting her bike helmet on she tied her brunette locks back in a ponytail.

The mum-of-four looked dashing in green trousers, $230 Nike sneakers, gold bangles, a white shirt and black blazer.

She adjusted and clipped in her own helmet before taking off on the bike

She will ride the 2km cycle route of Hyde Park along with City of Sydney staff.

She’ll then ride to Sydney’s Circular Quay before jumping on the light rail to Town Hall.

Prior an onlooker asked: ‘Princess Mary are you enjoying your time?’ and she politely responded by saying: ‘Yes, yes, looking forward to this bike ride.’

While many adored the casual look, Channel 7 presenters of The Morning Show raised concern about the length of her flowing trousers being so close to the bike chain.

TV presenter Katie Brown also scored a sneaky interview with Princess Mary live on Sunrise this morning.

The Crown Princess is back on home soil to meet with Danish representatives that are involved in Australia’s ‘green transition’ while also visiting several Danish-led projects related to sustainability.

Last night after touching down, Mary looked every inch the style icon when she arrived via private jet.

The fashionable royal cut a chic figure in a black T-shirt and loose fitting trousers as she made her way across the tarmac.

She was sure to rug up against the bitter chill in the air by donning a beige cardigan underneath a tailored cream blazer.

Mary completed her look with a lightweight scarf adorned with different shades of polka dots, and wore her reading glasses as she smiled for waiting photographers.

The royal, often heralded for her style and grace, opted to go make-up free for her arrival, allowing her flawless beauty to shine through.

She wore her brunette locks back, tied into a chic chignon, and carried a tan carry-all with her belongings.

Mary was greeted by her security detail upon arrival and whisked away to her accommodation in a sleek black vehicle that proudly displayed the Danish flag.

Mary’s climate focused trip in the South Pacific began on April 23 in Vanuatu where she met with key people who are managing the reconstruction of the island after it was hit by two cyclones and two earthquakes. She then headed to Fiji with Denmark’s Climate Minister.

Princess Mary’s visit Down Under will be brief, however, as she will be in London for King Charles III’s coronation on May 6.

The last time the Crown Princess was in Australia was last Christmas when she visited her family in Tasmania, but it was not in an official capacity.

She went to her hometown with her husband Crown Prince Frederick and their four children, Christian, 17, Isabella, 15, and twins Vincent and Josephine, 11.

The family’s holiday at Christmas was their first time Down Under in over five years, however Princess Mary was spotted without her family in March 2022 in Melbourne shopping with her friend and bridesmaid Amber Petty.

Princess Mary and Prince Frederick’s last official visit was in October 2013 where they visited the Sydney Opera House to celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Although she was born and raised in Tasmania, Mary moved to Denmark during her courtship with the heir to the Danish throne.

The love story between Princess Mary and Prince Frederik has been well documented.

She famously met her husband by chance at Sydney pub the Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics.

After their encounter, Fred – who was in Australia to support Denmark’s Olympic sailing team – asked Mary for her phone number and a romance blossomed.

‘The first time we met we shook hands. I didn’t know he was the prince of Denmark. Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who these people are’?’ Mary revealed in an interview about their meeting.

They maintained a long-distance relationship for a year, with Frederik making secret trips Down Under before Mary moved to Denmark to study the Danish language at Copenhagen’s Studieskolen in 2001.

In early 2003, Frederik’s mother Queen Margrethe publicly acknowledged the relationship and the couple announced their engagement at Amalienborg Castle later that year on October 8.

Frederik and Mary married on May 14, 2004 at Copenhagen Cathedral, with the newly minted Crown Princess opting for a beautiful gown by Danish designer Uffer Frank and a veil first used by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden in 1905.

Their first child, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John, was born October 15, 2005; Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe followed on April 21, 2007.

Almost four years later Mary and Frederik welcomed twins, Princess Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda and Prince Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander at the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on January 8, 2011.
